Hyundai Santa Fe Release Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove, inspect, and insatall the transaxle and release bearing on Hyundai Santa Fe?
A: Before pulling the transaxle out of the car you need to disconnect the release bearing from the pressure plate. To inspect, grab at the centre of the bearing and apply push or pull at the same time as when twisting the outer part; if the bearing does not rotate or is noisy when do so, replace it. Dry the bearing with an un-lubricated rag and visually inspect for any signs of damage or wear, the unit is sealed being for life. Also, you need to look for signs of wear and damage to the release fork and make sure the snap-ring is securely in place. During assembly, coat the insides of the release bearing and the area where the fork fingers sit lightly with high-temperature grease; the bearing has to be placed on the input shaft of the transaxle and swung into position where it connects with the fork fingers; lifting the transaxle upright onto the engine. For models from 2001 to 2006, take the release lever, fit it on the fork shaft, join the release cylinder with the help of the clevis pin as well as the cotter pin and then put the transaxle into the engine bolt. Switching the release lever counter clockwise and pushing it away from the release cylinder approximately about 20 degrees and there should be a snap from the snap ring; if the snap is not produced, repeat the previous steps. Under normal usage the contact of the release lever should only rotate a maximum of 3 degrees; if the lever rotates more then probably the bearing will not engage. For models from 2007 and later, place the release bearing to the transaxle, then place the transaxle, while the rest of the procedure is the reverse of the removal one.
