    Q:
How to remove, inspect, and insatall the transaxle and release bearing on Hyundai Santa Fe? Posted by Customer
    A:
Before pulling the transaxle out of the car you need to disconnect the release bearing from the pressure plate. To inspect, grab at the centre of the bearing and apply push or pull at the same time as when twisting the outer part; if the bearing does not rotate or is noisy when do so, replace it. Dry the bearing with an un-lubricated rag and visually inspect for any signs of damage or wear, the unit is sealed being for life. Also, you need to look for signs of wear and damage to the release fork and make sure the snap-ring is securely in place. During assembly, coat the insides of the release bearing and the area where the fork fingers sit lightly with high-temperature grease; the bearing has to be placed on the input shaft of the transaxle and swung into position where it connects with the fork fingers; lifting the transaxle upright onto the engine. For models from 2001 to 2006, take the release lever, fit it on the fork shaft, join the release cylinder with the help of the clevis pin as well as the cotter pin and then put the transaxle into the engine bolt. Switching the release lever counter clockwise and pushing it away from the release cylinder approximately about 20 degrees and there should be a snap from the snap ring; if the snap is not produced, repeat the previous steps. Under normal usage the contact of the release lever should only rotate a maximum of 3 degrees; if the lever rotates more then probably the bearing will not engage. For models from 2007 and later, place the release bearing to the transaxle, then place the transaxle, while the rest of the procedure is the reverse of the removal one.

    Q:
How to remove, inspect, and insatall the transaxle and release bearing on Hyundai Sonata? Posted by Customer
    A:
For models manufactured from 1999 to 2005, to extract the transaxle from the car, first, release the bearing of the pressure plate. To take the bearing apart for inspection, grab the center while pushing and rotating the outside; if it feels stiff or is noisy, swap it. Bearing should be cleaned with a rag and examined for signs of damage, wear, and cracks without going through the immersion in a solvent since it has a permanent seal. This way, scrupulously observe the condition of the release fork and its possible damages, and ensure that the snap-ring is securely installed. To install the release bearing, coat the interior of the bearing and the fork fingers/taper bush area with high-temperature grease and the bearing should be positioned on the input shaft of the transaxle such that it fits into the fork fingers and apply high-temperature grease on the input shaft. For the models that are previous 2005, lift the transaxle and place it adjacent to the engine, then fit the release lever to the fork shaft, hook it to the release cylinder with the clevis pin and then use cotter pin, fasten the transaxle to the engine using bolts. After releasing the take-up lever from the release cylinder, rotate it about 16 degrees away from the release cylinder, and listen for a click from the snap-ring; if it doesn't lock the assembly into place, do it again. It is intended that as a result of normal use the release lever should be capable of moving not more than 3 degrees in direction. If everything is in order with the bearing its position on the pressure plate should be correspondingly determined. In case of models from 2006 and later, both release bearing and the transaxle have to be assembled to the engine in the normal way as the process of installation is the reversing of the removal procedure.

    Q:
How should the engine be supported during transaxle removal for the 2009 Hyundai Sonata? Posted by Customer
    A:
Preferably, an engine hoist or support fixture should be used to support it from above. If a jack is used, a piece of wood should be placed between the jack and the oil pan to spread the load.

    Q:
What should be done to the flywheel and pressure plate before installation for the 2006 Hyundai Elantra? Posted by Customer

Clean the machined surfaces of the flywheel and pressure plate with brake cleaner, lacquer thinner, or acetone to ensure no oil or grease is present.

    Q:
How do you engage the snap-ring for the 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe? Posted by Customer
    A:
Put snap-ring pliers under the wave washer and engage the snap-ring. For 2006 and earlier models, install snap ring pliers under the wave washer to expand the retaining clip, push down on the release bearing to separate it, and then lift upon the bearing to detach it from the pressure plate.
