  • Q: How to replace a tie-rod end on Hyundai Excel?
    A: Loosen the wheel lug nuts. Raise the front of the vehicle, support it securely, block the rear wheels and apply the parking brake. Remove the front wheel(s). Hold the tie-rod with a pair of locking pliers or a wrench and loosen the jam nut enough to mark the position of the lie-rod end in relation to the threads. Loosen the jam nut while holding the tie-rod with a wrench on the flat portion of the rod to prevent It from turning. The relationship of the tie-rod end to the tie-rod can be marked with white paint. Remove the cotter pin and loosen the nut on the tie-rod end stud. Disconnect the tie-rod from the steering knuckle arm with a puller. Use a two-Jaw puller to separate the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle arm. Leave the nut In place to prevent the components from separating violently. Remove the nut and separate the tie-rod. Unscrew the tie-rod end from the tie-rod. Thread the tie-rod end on to the marked position and insert the tie-rod stud into the steering knuckle arm. Tighten the jam nut securely. Install the castellated nut on the stud and tighten it to the torque. Install a new cotter pin. Install the wheel and lug nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the torque. Have the alignment checked by a dealer service department or an alignment shop.
