Hyundai Excel Wheel Hub Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the hub and bearing assembly in the steering knuckle on Hyundai Excel?
A: Due to the need for special tools to replace the hub and bearing assembly in the Steering Knuckle and to properly adjust the hub bearing preload, the steering knuckle and hub assembly must be taken to a dealer service department or other repair shop equipped with the necessary tools for this procedure. This procedure applies to 1995 and later models. On 1995 and later models, the hub and bearing must be replaced as an assembly. For rear wheel bearing check, repack and adjustment procedures on 1994 and earlier models. Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the rear wheels. Remove the brake drums or discs. Using a hammer and punch or chisel, unstake the spindle nut. Remove the rear axle spindle nut and washer and pull the hub off the spindle. Inspect the grease seal for wear or damage. Rotate the wheel bearing and inspect for wear or damage. Inspect the wheel speed sensor rotor for damage. If any wear or damage is noted, replace the hub and bearing assembly. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the spindle nut to the torque and stake the nut into the slot in the spindle. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ABS rear wheel speed sensor, if equipped. To detach the hub/wheel bearing unit from the rear axle assembly, remove the four hub retaining bolts. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the hub retaining bolts to the torque.
