Q: How to remove and replace door handle, latch and lock cylinder on Hyundai Elantra?
A: Wear gloves when working inside the door openings to protect against cuts from sharp metal edges. For 2006 and earlier models, raise the window, then remove the door trim panel and watershield. Working through the access hole, disengage the outside door handle-to-latch rod, outside door lock-to-latch rod, inside handle-to-latch rod, and lock solenoid-to-latch rod. All door lock rods are attached by plastic clips that can be removed by unsnapping the portion engaging the connecting rod and pulling the rod out of its locating hole. On models with power door locks, disconnect the electrical connectors at the latch. Remove the screws securing the latch to the end of the door and withdraw the latch assembly through the access hole. On 2001 and later models, the latch is part of the door module assembly; remove the latch screws and module retaining bolts, then remove the module from the door. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 2007 through 2016 models (except 2013 through 2017 GT models), remove the door window glass or raise it completely, then remove the outside handle and door module assembly. Detach the cables from the latch, then remove it, with installation being the reverse of removal. For 2017 and later models and 2013 through 2017 GT models, remove the door panel, disconnect the door handle assembly from the door panel, remove the door module, disconnect the electrical connector from the bottom of the latch, and remove the door latch by pulling the latch assembly towards the rear of the module, with installation being the reverse of removal. To remove the outside handle and lock cylinder assembly for 2006 and earlier models, raise the window and remove the door trim panel and watershield, taking care not to scratch the paint on the outside of the door. Working through the access hole, disengage the plastic clips that secure the outside handle-to-latch actuating rod and the outside door lock-to-latch actuating rod, then remove the outside door handle retaining bolts and the handle/lock cylinder assembly from the vehicle, with installation being the reverse of removal. For 2017 and later models, remove the plug hole cap from the end of the door, loosen the mounting bolt through the hole, and remove the push button from the handle. On 2007 through 2016 models (except GT models), slide the handle toward the rear to remove it. On 2017 and later models and 2013 through 2017 GT models, slide the handle toward the rear, pull it out of the door until the handle connector locking pin can be accessed, push the locking pin out, and remove the handle, followed by removing the two rubber gaskets, with installation being the reverse of removal.
