    Q:
What is the purpose and components of the evaporative emission control system,Canister Purge Valve and Vapor Canister on Hyundai Accent? Posted by Customer
    A:
The purpose for the evaporative emission control system is to keep fuel vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. It includes a canister, water vent valve, purge control valve, thermo valve, overfill limiter and specialty designed fuel cap. When the engine is off, the canister will absorb and store the vapors of the fuel system whereas when it's started; these vapors go through various valves and lines into intake manifold. Bowl vent valve controls carburetor float bowl vapors. The carbureted engine purge control valve is closed during idle to prevent vaporized fuel from entering the intake manifold. At higher engine speeds, the purge control valve opens. Thermo valve senses temperature at the intake manifold and closes purge control valve when coolant temperature falls below preset value. Fuel filler cap is fitted with vacuum relief valves to prevent escape of fuel vapor into atmosphere. There are two types: pressure valve which opens if internal pressure of a tank exceeds normal pressure condition while vacuum valve operates when internal tank pressure is lower than normal pressure condition. The fuel check-valve connected in fuel vapor line between canister and overfill limiter prevents leakage of fuel during vehicle rollover. It has two balls inside.Under normal conditions, it allows passage of fuel vapour through its body. However,in case of an accident, the balls will situate themselves in such a way that one blocks up this passage consequently preventing any possible leaking of petrol.

    Q:
How Does the EVAP System Operate, and What Are the Procedures for Replacing Canister Purge Valve,Vapor Canister and Vapor Pressure Sensor on Hyundai Sonata? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Evaporative Emissions Control (EVAP) system is designed to absorb fuel vapors, releasing them into the intake manifold during engine operation, where they mix with the air-fuel mixture. Key components include the fuel tank filler neck cap, EVAP canister, vapor pressure sensor, canister closed valve, two-way valve, and purge valve, with all but the purge valve located underneath the vehicle. When gasoline evaporates due to heat, it increases pressure in the sealed fuel tank, which is monitored by the vapor pressure sensor that informs the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The vapors flow into the canister through a two-way valve and are purged into the intake manifold when the PCM activates the purge control solenoid valve. The canister purge control solenoid valve, located in the engine compartment, regulates vapor flow based on PCM commands to prevent a rich air-fuel mixture. During purging, atmospheric air is drawn into the canister to maintain pressure balance, with the canister closed valve controlling this process. The EVAP system diagnostic monitor checks for leaks by running a sequence that involves starting the engine and monitoring temperatures and pressures. If a leak is detected, the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) activates, and a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is stored. The PCM also monitors the canister closed valve and pressure switching valve to ensure proper operation, repeating the monitoring sequence as long as the engine is in closed loop. For replacement, the purge control solenoid valve requires disconnecting the negative battery terminal, removing the engine cover, and detaching the electrical connector and vacuum hoses before installation. Other components, such as the two-way valve, EVAP canister, vapor pressure sensor, and canister closed valve, also involve similar disconnection and reconnection procedures for replacement.

    Q:
What role does the Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor play in the EVAP system for the 1997 Hyundai Elantra? Posted by Customer
    A:
The FTP sensor detects leaks by measuring the pressure difference between ambient pressure and the pressure inside the fuel tank. If excessive pressure is detected, it signals the PCM to open the Canister Close Valve (CCV).

    Q:
What occurs if the pressure inside the EVAP system does not drop as expected for the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe? Posted by Customer
    A:
The PCM turns on the MIL or Check Engine light and stores a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) indicating an incorrect purge flow.
