    Q:
What is the purpose of the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system,PCV Hose and PCV Valve on Hyundai Accent? Posted by Customer
    A:
The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system is designed to prevent emissions by drawing crankcase vapors. It operates by pulling fresh air from the air cleaner through the crankcase where it mixes with blow-by gases and then drawn through a PCV valve into the intake manifold. This consists of two hoses, one running from the air intake duct to the crankcase and another one from the crankcase to the intake manifold. The PCV valve is found in the valve cover while it connects the PCV hose to the intake manifold. The flow of high vacuum restricts that of PCV valve during idling so as to maintain its good quality. In case of abnormal operating conditions, excess gases will travel back via crankcase vent tube into air cleaner. Although no routine inspection interval is set for these valves or hoses, sludge build-up can decrease their efficiency over time. Leaking seals are caused due to clogged PCV systems. It is recommended that at oil, air filter, spark plug changes inspecting and cleaning should be done on all pcv hoses Replacement involves removal of pcv fresh air inlet hose, pcv crankcase ventilation hose and pcv valve off respectively; examine-and-change any cracked or deteriorated hoses; clean out pcv valve using solvent and compressed air or replace if residue cannot be removed; re-install as necessary.

    Q:
How Does the PCV System Function, and What Are the Maintenance Tips for PCV Hose and PCV Valve on Hyundai Santa Fe? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system decreases the amount of hydrocarbon emissions since blow-by gases and crankcase vapors are channeled in the intake manifold and mix with intake air and then drawn into the combustion chamber to burn together with the air/fuel mixture. It is a system through which fresh air from the air filter housing is pumped through hoses into the crankcase :where the fresh air then mixes with blow-by gases before being drawn out by intake vacuum through the PCV valve into the intake manifold. High intake manifold vacuum during idle and part throttle helps draw blow-by gases and crankcase fumes through the PCV valve and the ventilation hose into the intake manifold while the fresh air is drawn from the air intake duct or filter housing into the crank case. Unlike the PCV valve or the system hoses, these may experience decline in efficiency due to sludge buildup, and as a result, crankcase vapors will not be expelled, hence pressure build up and resulting to crankshaft seal leaks, in a case where seals are leaking. One should check the PCV hoses during an oil filter change, air filter change, fuel filter change, or spark plug change; if the hoses are clogged they needs to be cleaned and if cracked, torn, or deteriorated they need to be replaced.

    Q:
How Does the PCV System Work, and What Maintenance is Recommended for PCV Hose and PCV Valve on Hyundai Sonata? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system leads blow-by gases and crankcase vapors into the intake manifold allowing them to mix with intake air then to be sucked into the combustion chamber and burned together air/fuel mixture. This system fresh air from the air filter housing is channeled through hoses into the crankcase, where the fresh air gets to mix with the blow-by gases before the intake vacuum sucks it through the PCV valve and into the intake manifold. High intake manifold vacuum under idle and part-throttle helps draw blow-by gases and crankcase emulsion vapor via the PCV valve and through the crankcase ventilation hose into the intake manifold while at the same time drawing fresh air through the air intake duct or air filter housing into the crankcase. While, there is no specific timing for checking free the PCV valve or the hoses, the system slowly becomes less efficient because of oily sludge deposits and crankcase pressure build-up, which leading to symptoms like leaking engine seals. PCV hoses should be checked during such maintenance activities as the change of the oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, or spark plug; where dirty, the hoses should be washed; where cracked or deteriorated, the hoses should be renewed. On all models, the PCV valve is fastened to the valve cover; it should also be checked and replaced, when needed.
