The 2010 and later 2.4L four-cylinder engines, 2.7L and 3.3L V6 engines, and 2010 and later 3.5L V6 engines do not utilize an EGR system, which is only found in 2006 and earlier 2.4L four-cylinder and 3.5L V6 models. To reduce oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions, exhaust gas is recirculated through the EGR valve to the intake manifold, lowering combustion temperatures. The EGR system includes an EGR valve, an EGR vacuum solenoid valve, a MAP sensor, the PCM, vacuum hoses, and wiring harnesses, with the EGR valve's position controlled by vacuum modulated by the EGR solenoid valve, which is managed by the PCM, while the MAP sensor provides necessary information for EGR operation. For EGR valve replacement, first remove the engine cover to access the valve, identifiable by its large diaphragm housing and vacuum hose; on 2.4L models, it is near the throttle body, and on 3.5L V6 models, it is at the rear center of the intake manifold. Disconnect the vacuum hose, remove the mounting bolts, and lift off the valve, checking for sticking and carbon deposits, which may require replacement if excessive. Installation follows the reverse order, ensuring a new gasket is used and mounting surfaces are clean. The EGR vacuum solenoid valve connects to the EGR valve via a vacuum hose and to an engine vacuum source; on 2.4L models, it is located near the valve cover, while on 3.5L V6 models, it is between the firewall and the upper intake manifold. Disconnect the wiring harness and both vacuum hoses, labeling them if necessary, then remove the mounting bolts to take off the solenoid valve, with installation reversing the removal process. The MAP sensor, directly connected to the intake manifold, supplies information to the PCM for EGR system operation on 2.4L models, located at the passenger side end of the intake manifold. Disconnect the wiring and vacuum hose connections, remove the mounting screws, and lift off the sensor, with installation also following the reverse order.

The EGR system is applied only for the four-cylinder cars from 1999 to 2005, where, through the EGR valve, the part of the exhaust gases gets to the intake manifold to decrease the combustion temperature and, thusly, the emission of nitrogen oxides. These are the EGR valve, EGR vacuum solenoid valve, manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, the powertrain control module (PCM), vacuum hoses and wires; the position of the EGR valve is controlled by vacuum through the EGR vacuum solenoid valve through signal from the PCM, while the MAP sensor supplies sufficient information for EGR functioning. To perform replacement on an EGR valve, first, remove the engine cover to do this, remove the vacuum hose, and remove the bolts holding the valve in order to lift it up; check for excessive stick and if there is a lot of dark black Karbon deposit then it is advisable to replace. Turn the supply air vacuum control solenoid valve near the valve cover counter clockwise and remove it together with the vacuum harness and a couple of hoses you may label if necessary and the bolts. The class installation process is the reverse of this for both of the components. The MAP sensor is situated at the rear side of the intake manifold, and its function is to provide information to the PCM only and it doesn't control the common engine operations; to remove this component, the wiring harness and vacuum connections need to be disconnected, and then the unit can be unbolted, while the installation process requires the reversed steps.
