    Q:
How to remove, inspect, and insatall the front shock absorber assembly and Coil Springs on Hyundai Sonata? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the shock absorber, first loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands before removing the wheel and supporting the lower control arm with a floor jack. Next, unbolt the brake hose bracket and wheel speed sensor bracket from the shock absorber fork, and disconnect the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring bracket if it interferes. For 2006 and later models, disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the shock absorber fork. Remove the fork-to-lower control arm bolt, which attaches the lower end of the suspension fork to the lower control arm. Loosen the pinch bolt at the top of the fork and then remove the fork, which connects to the bottom of the shock absorber/spring assembly. If disassembling the shock absorber, loosen the damper shaft nut without removing it. Support the shock and spring assembly while removing the three shock absorber-to-shock tower nuts in the engine compartment. For inspection, check the shock absorber body for leaks, dents, cracks, and other damage, and inspect the coil spring for chips or cracks in the coating, as well as the spring seat for cuts and deterioration. If any issues are found, proceed to disassemble the unit. For installation, guide the assembly into the fenderwell and insert the upper mounting studs through the shock tower holes, securing them with nuts to prevent the assembly from falling. Install the fork to the lower part of the shock absorber and the lower control arm, tightening all fasteners to the specified torque while raising the outer end of the lower control arm to simulate normal ride height before tightening. Reattach the brake hose bracket and ABS wheel speed sensor bracket, then install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque.

    A:
Remove the bolts from the upper shock mounting bracket and lift the assembly out of the vehicle.

    Q:
What should you do if the shocks or coil springs show signs of wear for the 2005 Hyundai Sonata? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the shocks or coil springs exhibit signs of wear such as leaking fluid, loss of damping capability, or physical damage (chipped, sagging, or cracked), explore all options before beginning any work. The shock absorber assemblies are not serviceable and must be replaced if a problem develops. Check on the cost and availability of parts before disassembling your vehicle.
