The checking procedure is applicable only to 2006 and earlier models, as 2007 and later models require special equipment and procedures. The Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor is situated on the front side of the engine block, near the flywheel/drive plate, and it monitors the position of the crankshaft, allowing the PCM to compute engine RPM. To check the sensor, disconnect the electrical connector and measure the resistance between terminals 2 and 3, comparing the measurement with the specified value; if the resistance is outside the acceptable range, the CKP sensor should be replaced. For 1.4L and 1.6L models, begin by removing the air filter housing, then unplug the CKP sensor electrical connector, take out the mounting bolt, and remove the CKP sensor from the block. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring the CKP sensor mounting bolt is tightened to the specified torque.
