    Q:
How do you replace the crankshaft front oil seal on Hyundai Elantra? Posted by Customer
    A:
To change the front crankshaft oil seal with the oil pump installed, follows the steps and take off the timing belt cover, timing belt, and the crankshaft sprocket. Observe the depth of the seal in the bore and then using screw driver or seal puller gently remove the seal from the oil pump housing without harming the crankshaft or scratching the housing. In the absence of a seal removal tool, two self-tapping screws are sufficient to thread into the front seal; this will help in pulling it out. Scrub the bore in the housing with a clean cloth and lubricate the outer/ridge part of the new seal in engine oil or multi-purpose grease with grease on the seal lip. Clamp the socket having slightly smaller outside diameter than the seal into place and hit the new seal gently to drive it in square and in the required depth as of the former seal. If a socket is not available a short piece of pipe of large diameter may be utilized. Once done fit the crankshaft sprocket, and make sure the slot of the timing belt fits properly over the spring before refitting the belt. All in all, start the engine and check the oil leakage dropping at the front seal. For the outer crankshaft oil seal RS, needed for 2011 and further year models, the crankshaft does not include a seal housing like models with an external housing Fast and Easy for the outboard crankshaft, the RS seal can be installed and removed without the housing. First, start with the removal of the transaxle, next, for the models having a manual transaxle, disassemble the pressure plate and clutch disc and lastly the flywheel or the driveplate. Using the seal removal tool, pry out the old seal up from the housing, put some clean engine oil on the lip of the new seal, using a large socket with a diameters slightly smaller as the outside diameter of the new seal, push the seal into the housing until it is fully in place. Check and reinstall the flywheel or driveplate Then for the Manual transaxle model reinstall the clutch disc as well as the pressure plate and again reinstall the transaxle main model.

    Q:
How is the rear main seal configured for the 2001 Hyundai Elantra? Posted by Customer
    A:
In 1.4L, 1.6L, 2011 and later 1.8L, and 2014 and later 2.0L engines, the seal is pressed directly into the cylinder block and the lower crankcase.
