For 2006 and earlier models, begin by removing the air intake hose from the throttle body and air filter housing in the engine compartment. Place a drain pan under the rack and pinion, disconnect the fluid pressure and return fittings, and cap the ends to prevent fluid loss and contamination. Inside the vehicle, mark the position of the lower universal joint relative to the rack and pinion input shaft and remove the lower shaft pinch bolt. With the wheels straight, loosen the front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle securely on jack stands, apply the parking brake, and remove the wheels along with the engine splash shields. Disconnect the tie-rod ends from the steering knuckles, remove the right side stabilizer bar bracket, and take out the rack and pinion clamp mounting bolts and hydraulic line clamp. Separate the intermediate shaft from the rack and pinion input shaft and remove the rack and pinion assembly through the right side fenderwell. Ensure the rack and pinion is centered before installation, guide it into position, connect the U-joint aligning the marks, install and tighten the mounting brackets and bolts, connect the stabilizer bar, and tie-rod ends to the steering knuckle arms. Install the U-joint pinch bolt, connect the power steering pressure and return lines, and fill the power steering pump reservoir with the recommended fluid. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring all suspension and steering fasteners are tightened. Finally, install the wheels and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, tighten the lug nuts, and bleed the steering system. For 2007 and later models, start by loosening the front wheel lug nuts, raising the vehicle securely on jack stands, and removing the front wheels. Inside the vehicle, remove the pinch bolt from the steering shaft and separate it from the rack and pinion input shaft. Detach the stabilizer bar links from the front struts, disconnect the ball joints from the lower control arms, and remove the rubber exhaust hanger to allow the exhaust system to hang. Detach the wiring harness from the subframe, remove the through-bolts from the front and rear engine mount roll-stoppers, and mark the subframe's position with paint before removing the mounting bolts and taking it out with the rack and pinion still attached. Remove the rear roll-stopper from above the rack and pinion and then take the rack and pinion from the subframe. Ensure the rack and pinion input shaft is centered before installation, which follows the reverse order of removal, with all fasteners tightened.
