    Q:
How do you remove the cylinder head on Hyundai Elantra? Posted by Customer
    A:
You need to pull off the cylinder head; therefore, ensure that you start by draining the engine coolant and the upper hose of the radiator, and the two other coolant hoses, which connect to the thermostat housing. Next, the spark plugs and the spark plug wires should then be disconnected from the engine. If have to remove the cylinder head, remove the ignition coil assembly. Remove the valve cover and in some types of cars, the timing belt/chain cover and the corresponding parts. If disassembling the head, remove the fuel rail and injectors; otherwise, just disconnect the sockets and loose the suitable fuel hoses. Take off the power steering pump and bracket if they are there. If one finds themselves servicing the cylinder head, then the intakes as well as the exhaust manifolds may be required to be pulled out notwithstanding the fact that this may not always be necessary particularly when one is not disassembling the head. Lose and then taken out the cylinder head bolts in reverse order following the sequence to such a degree that they are easily removable by hand whereby the old bolts are to be chucked. Make certain that no cross is still connected to the cylinder head at this stage, if it is stuck then go gently on it and remove it. Take out the gasket from the block and compare it with the new one which is to be fitted; Set aside the dowel pins safely. For installation, this device requires the mating surfaces to be free from any marks of damages. Place the intake and exhaust manifolds if replaced on their respective sites and make sure the cylinder head bolt holes are clear of debris and dry. Install the new head gasket, with the manufacturer's markings correctly oriented on the block, and then correctly set the cylinder head and manifolds in their proper positions. Apply clean oil to the threads and to the underside of the bolt heads, then torque the new cylinder head bolts by hand. Apply the recommended amount of torque to the bolts in the sequence accompanied by an angle measuring gauge. Replace the intake/exhaust manifolds if not done already, then power steering pump and bracket if installed. Replace fuel lines and electric connectors, fully install lifters and rocker if there are, timing entities and valve cover. Last but not least, replace the ignition coil assembly and spark plugs also hoses and put coolant in the cooling system and change the motor oil and start the car and check for any fluid leakages.
