On other models, you first need to remove the drivebelt. Access can be limited on these models, so you may need to remove various components including the lower engine splash shield to gain access. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the alternator and air conditioning compressor, then move the harness out of the way. On 2011 and later 2.4L engines, you also need to remove the Variable Intake Solenoid (VIS) actuator and valve. Finally, remove the mounting bolts and remove the alternator.

To remove the alternator, first disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. For four-cylinder models, disconnect the electrical connectors from the alternator. Loosen the lock bolt on the upper alternator adjusting mount and the lower mount bolt. Turn the adjusting bolt counterclockwise to release tension on the drivebelt. Remove the drivebelt. Remove the two alternator mounting bolts and then remove the alternator. For V6 models, remove the drivebelt and disconnect the electrical connectors from the alternator. Remove the mounting bolts and then remove the alternator.
