For the year 2012 and after, an automatic transaxle fluid level check is typically unnecessary during scheduled services unless an oil leak is noticed. Specific transmission fluids are required to drain and replace the automatic transaxle fluid, along with tools such as jackstands, a drain pan that can hold at least eight quarts, old newspapers, and clean rags. On 2011 model or older ones, vehicle warmness should be drained before placing it on jackstands preparing for removal of transaxle drain plug. The pan removed then the filter detached after which thorough cleaning of gasket surfaces done. A new gasket is then installed then fluid added through dipstick tube. After that one should shift through all gears to check for the fluid level. For 2012 models and earlier ones the fluid check involves raising the vehicle, removing the oil level plug from transaxle side pan and checking proper fluid flow. To change the tranny oil one would have to remove banjo bolt opening to guarantee right flow of fluids after removing drain plug and refilling it by using this portion only but also ensuring liquid flows correctly first before finalizing process.
