To perform an oil change, you should park on a level surface, warm up the engine, turn it off, and remove the filler cap. Then, raise the vehicle, place a drain pan under the drain plug, and remove the plug carefully. Allow the old oil to drain completely, inspecting for metal shavings. Wipe the drain plug clean, reinstall it securely, and move the pan under the oil filter. Loosen and remove the old filter, wipe the mounting surface clean, and lubricate the new filter's gasket with engine oil before hand-tightening it onto the block.
