To inspect the brake disc, start by loosening the wheel lug nuts and raising the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the wheel and then the brake caliper, suspending it with wire. Visually inspect the disc surface for scoring and damage, checking both sides. Deep scoring requires disc removal and refinishing by a machine shop. To check disc runout, use a dial indicator placed about 1/2-inch from the outer edge of the disc. The allowable runout maximum should not be exceeded. If it does, the disc should be refinished. It is recommended to resurface the discs regardless of the indicator reading. If not resurfacing, deglaze the disc with sandpaper or emery cloth. Check the disc thickness with a micrometer.For 1986-1999 models, remove the caliper and mounting bracket, then the hub and steering knuckle assembly. For 2000 and later models, remove the caliper and bracket, then the brake disc from the hub. Installation is the reverse of removal. Finally, install the wheel, lower the vehicle, and test the brakes before normal use.
