    Q:
How Do You Remove and Install the Clutch Master Cylinder on Hyundai Elantra? Posted by Customer
    A:
Some models are equipped with an anti-theft radio. Before performing a procedure that requires disconnecting the battery, ensure you have the activation code. For five-speed models, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Under the dashboard, remove the cotter pin from the clutch master cylinder pushrod clevis and pull out the clevis pin to disconnect the pushrod from the pedal. Use a suction gun or large syringe to remove as much fluid as possible from the clutch fluid reservoir, taking care not to drip any fluid on the vehicle's paint. Disconnect the fluid supply hose if applicable and the wiring at the pedal for 2007 and later models. Using a flare-nut wrench, disconnect the hydraulic line fitting at the cylinder, having rags handy to catch any lost fluid, and cap or plug the ends of the line to prevent leakage and contamination. Remove the mounting fasteners and detach the cylinder from the firewall, avoiding contact between brake fluid and paint. For six-speed models, repeat the battery terminal disconnection, then remove the locking pin and washer from the clutch pedal pivot to slide the master cylinder off. Remove the battery and battery tray, followed by the PCM and mounting bracket. Extract as much fluid as possible from the master cylinder reservoir, disconnect the fluid supply hose and pressure line for 2016 and earlier models, or disconnect the fluid supply hose and remove the clevis pin for 2017 and later models before rotating the clutch master cylinder clockwise to remove it from the vehicle. For installation of five-speed models, position the master cylinder on the firewall and install the mounting fasteners finger tight, connect the hydraulic line fitting to the clutch master cylinder, and tighten it finger tight before securing the mounting fasteners and hydraulic line fitting to the specified torque. For six-speed models, position the master cylinder on the firewall, rotate it counterclockwise to lock it in place, insert the end of the clutch regulator into the clutch master cylinder elbow, and secure it with the clevis pin. Attach the fluid feed hose from the reservoir to the clutch master cylinder, tighten the hose clamp, connect the pushrod to the clutch pedal using a new cotter pin, fill the reservoir with brake fluid conforming to DOT 3 specifications, and bleed the clutch system, with installation being the reverse of removal.
