In the case of 1994 and earlier car models, rear wheel bearings are to be inspected with the vehicle lifted up using a torque wrench, special grease, hammer, grease, wood block, needle-nose pliers, screwdriver, socket/breaker bar and brush. The wheels should be turned while adequately supported on jack stands in order to check for noise as well as rolling resistance and freeplay. Any visible movement in the wheels will necessitate repacking or replacement of these bearings. To repack it first remove the wheel next depending on whether there is need to do so back off parking brake adjuster then pry dust cap out in either direction. The cotter pin is taken out when dealing with models that have a castellated spindle nut and then spindle nut lock is pulled off after which nut itself should come out along with its washer from there drum/hub assembly should slightly be pulled towards outside until outer bearing comes off; this bearing takes over and seal is pried whereby inner one exits too. Bearings get cleaned and examined before being packed anew with grease. Apply grease into each side of spindle before installing bearings than install new seal thereafter. Consequently adjust spindle nut insert new cotter pin tap dust cap into place fix wheel tighten lug nuts lower vehicle ensure that bearing moves before tightening them again then go ahead to attach dust cover by tapping it on top and finally install wheel while checking if bearings move freely.
