To ensure that your vehicle's battery starts quickly and reliably, one must have a routine PM plan in place. Before you do any battery maintenance, ensure that you have the right safety equipment. Following usual checks, a trickle charge can be used overnight. Check if your batteries have built-in hydrometers that indicate their charge status through color or use a voltmeter; fully charged ones should read 12.6 volts or higher after bringing into equilibrium by removing surface charges.

If the battery has removable cell caps, you can measure the specific gravity with a hydrometer every hour during the last few hours of the charging cycle.
