To pry the lower control arms out, first loosen the wheel lug nuts of the side which will be torn apart, lift the car, support it on jackstands, and then take off the wheel. Remove the bolt from the lower part of the shock absorber fork that connects to the lower control arm and in the same process; the lower balljoint needs to be removed from the control arm. On the models that were produced from 1999-2005, the stabilizer bar link must be disconnected from the lower control arm; after that, the lower control arm mounting bolts have to be removed, and the control arm itself will be removed in the next step; it also should be mentioned that two-piece lower front control arm can be disassembled further if necessary. As with the lower control arms, again remove the wheel lug nuts, lift the car above ground level, and take off the wheel for the upper control arms. Incase of violent separation, do not fully remove the nut from upper ball joint but just loosen it few turns with lock pin or cotter pin being removed. To take off the ball joint separated from the steering knuckle with the help of a ball joint/tie-rod end remover, and to take off the nut and another part from the upper control arm. On the models from year 2006 and later, the shock absorber/spring assembly needs to be disconnected to gain access to the control arm bolts. The procedure for models that are manufactured before year 2005 include: opening the hood and thereafter unbolt the upper control arm mount nuts and pull off the control arm. The processes of installation are the complete opposite to the removal procedures that offer adequate checks on all fastening places to make certain that they have been tightened to the said torque at the same time; a new cotter pin must be used. Therefore before tightening the rear pivot bolt nut on the models from 2006 and above, lift the outer end of the control arm to a standard position as a usual ride height. Some models may need the cotter pins to be replaced but lock pins made of spring steel can be reused in circumstances that they are not damaged. Lastly, place the wheel, and tighten the lug nuts up to the required torque; then if necessary, level the vehicle and check the front wheel alignment.
