The checking procedure is applicable only to models from 2006 and earlier, while 2007 through 2012 2.0L models necessitate special equipment and procedures that are not covered here. For 2011 and later 1.8L models, as well as all 2013 and later models, the /SC is integrated into the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) module. On 1996 through 2000 models, the Idle Control Valve (ICV) is situated behind the air intake plenum, whereas on 2001 and later models, it is mounted on the front of the air intake plenum. To remove the ICV, the electrical connector must be unplugged, followed by the removal of two mounting screws and disconnection from the hose underneath. The ICV, controlled by the PCM, regulates the air entering the intake plenum at idle. To check the ICV, the electrical connector should be disconnected, and resistance across terminals 1 and 2, as well as terminals 2 and 3, should be measured and compared to specified values; if the resistance is incorrect, the ICV needs replacement. For models from 1996 to 2000, the ICV is removed by unplugging the electrical connector, loosening the hose clamps, disconnecting the air hoses, and pulling the valve straight up from its mounting bracket. For models from 2001 to 2012 2.0L, the process involves unplugging the electrical connector, removing the mounting screws, disconnecting the valve from the hose, with installation being the reverse of removal.
